I have never lived without dogs

I'm Adrián. I live in Lanzarote with three dogs and there's nothing I enjoy more than being around them. If you're short on hours in the day, I'll take yours out: a good half hour, no rushing, for a more active life.

€15per 30 to 45 minute walk

The walk

A good half hour, at his own pace

I pick him up at your home, we're out for 30 to 45 minutes and I bring him back with fresh water. Afterwards I tell you how it went, with photos.

In-home care

Dog sitting at home, without taking him out of his own house

If you're travelling, instead of putting him in a kennel I come to your house: I feed him, change his water, spend a while with him and take him out for his walk.

What I don't do is stay overnight. I come, do what needs doing, and leave until the next visit. That's why the rates are per day rather than per visit: almost nobody needs just one.

A kennel or boarding centre

  • Someone is there around the clock, and the good ones have a vet on site.
  • If your dog is very sociable, he'll have a great time with other dogs.
  • It's the sensible option if you're away for more than a couple of weeks.

Someone coming to your house

  • No change of house, no change of bed, no change of routine. He sleeps where he always sleeps.
  • No exposure to other dogs, or to whatever they might bring with them, like kennel cough.
  • For a fearful dog, an elderly one, one on medication or one who gets anxious away from home, it's a different league.
  • And your house isn't left empty with the blinds down for two weeks.

And I'll say it plainly: if you're away for a month, or your dog needs veterinary supervision, a boarding centre is a better option than me. If I think that's your situation, I'll tell you.

Who's walking him

Three dogs at home, and a lifetime before them

I'm not a company and I don't have a diploma on the wall. What I have is a whole life spent alongside dogs, and three of them asleep in my house right now.

I adopted Sunset and Brownie in the Dominican Republic and brought them to Spain with me: paperwork, vaccinations, months of red tape and a transatlantic flight with both of them beside me, not in the hold. The third is my partner's pinscher, who bosses the other two around and has never weighed more than five kilos.

I know what it's like when a dog arrives terrified and takes weeks to let you touch him. I know when a dog is genuinely tired and when he's just pulling on the lead out of habit. And I know what a dog needs after eight hours alone at home.

Before the first walk, the three of us meet: you, your dog and me. Fifteen minutes, free and with no commitment.

Questions

What people usually ask me

What if it rains?

We go out anyway, if that's fine by you. Rain doesn't bother me and it doesn't bother most dogs either. If you'd rather he stayed home that day, just tell me and we'll find another slot.

How do I pay?

Cash at the end of the walk or by Bizum, whichever is easier for you. The prices above are the full prices: no extras and no travel surcharge.

What if my dog pulls hard on the lead?

That's completely normal and not a problem at all. For those cases I bring a canicross harness: it spreads the pull and makes the walk more comfortable for both of us.

What happens if I need to cancel?

With more than 24 hours' notice you get a full refund. With less than 24 hours, half. With less than 4 hours there's no refund, because I can no longer give that slot to anyone else.

Really only dogs?

Only dogs. It's what I actually know, and I'd rather do one thing properly than four things halfway.

Do you do boarding or kennels?

No. I don't have facilities, I don't take dogs to my own home, and I don't sleep over at yours either. What I do is come to your house as many times a day as needed. If you need someone with him all night, I'm perfectly happy to recommend a boarding centre on the island.

The album

A life with dogs

Beaches, mountains, snow, airports and a lot of hours in the car. None of these are from a photo shoot: they're from living with them.

Let's start

Shall we go out this week?

I reply the same day. Tell me where you live and a bit about your dog: age, size and anything you think I should know.
